Fulham transfers: Jol won’t rule out move for Aston Villa’s Bent
Fulham transfers: Manager Martin Jol refuses to rule out a January swoop for Aston Villa striker Darren Bent
Fulham manager Martin Jol has refused to rule out a January swoop for out-of-favour Aston Villa striker Darren Bent.
Bent’s future has become the subject of speculation in recent weeks, with the forward having been limited to just 11 appearances for Villa this term after falling behind Christian Benteke in Paul Lambert’s pecking order.
When asked whether he would move for Bent in January, Jol replied: You never know, but we have three good strikers in [Dimitar] Berbatov, [Mladen] Petric and [Alexander] Kacaniklic. We could maybe have one more creative player but you never know what will change.”
Jol’s comments come after Villa boss Lambert insisted there had been no offers for the England striker.
Lambert also dismissed suggestions that Bent, who has made 47 league appearances for Villa, was not featuring due to a clause in his contract requiring the midlands outfit to make a £3m payment to Sunderland if he makes 50 outings for the club in the top flight.
Lambert said: “Have there been any enquiries for Bent? No. Has he asked to be put on the transfer list? No.
“Is there a clause? That’s not true. I’m not sure where that came from.
“I answered about 105 questions [on Bent] the other night. The team I pick will be the team that will go and try win us the game and that’s the way I’ll always be.”
