Lazio 0 Tottenham 0: Andre Villas-Boas heaps praise on Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris after a goalless draw in Rome
Andre Villas-Boas heaped praise on Hugo Lloris after the France goalkeeper helped Tottenham Hotspur secure a goalless draw with Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.
Spurs winger Gareth Bale came close to opening the score in the fifth minute when he burst into the Lazio box and rounded the keeper but the strike was ruled out for offside.
Lazio peppered the visitors’ goal with efforts in the second half, and former Lyon goalkeeper Lloris denied Libor Kozak on several occasions to keep Spurs in the hunt for a last-32 spot.
“It was important for him and he was a great help for the team,” Villas-Boas said.
“He was decisive in a couple of moments.”
He added: “Against Lazio we’ve had four goals disallowed. Two of them rightly and two of them not, maybe three,” Villas-Boas said.
“It’s difficult to see decisions go that way but we move on. We take the result. We are in a comfortable position to qualify.”
Meanwhile, Lazio manager Vladmir Petkovic felt the home side did enough to earn three points against the Premier League outfit.
“It was a very good performance,” he said.
“We played a top team from one of best leagues in the world but we managed to put pressure on them. We deserved three points and I must compliment my players.”
