Liverpool 3 Wigan 0: Brendan Rodgers hails the Reds' for an "outstanding team performance" against the Latics at Anfield
Brendan Rodgers heaped praise on Liverpool for “an outstanding team performance” after the Reds ran out comfortable winners against Wigan Athletic at Anfield.
The Reds struggled in the first half before Luis Suárez finally made the breakthrough in the 48th minute after Raheem Sterling delivered a low cross for the Uruguayan to fire past Ali Al-Habsi.
The former Ajax man then netted his 10th goal of the season when Jose Enrique threaded a pass through to Suárez, with striker poking his finish past the Wigan goalkeeper.
The Liverpool left-back added a third to wrap up the victory and extend their run to seven games without defeat in the Premier League.
“It was a real outstanding team performance,” Rodgers told Setanta Sports.
“Obviously Luis got two of the goals but I thought across the board, particularly in the second half, we were outstanding, so it was a good win for us.
“We were much better in our pressing in the second half and got higher up the field.
“Raheem has done brilliantly [for the first goal] because he has read it and put pressure on and it was a great pass back and Luis finished it really, really well.
“That got us going in the second half and our confidence flew from that.”
He added: “The players have been outstanding all the way through the season for me. We haven’t always got the results but we did today.
“We could have got a few more but the clean sheet was also important. The structure was very good and we pressed and closed the gaps.”
