Liverpool transfers: Luis Suárez insists he wants to spend many years at Anfield amid reported interest from Manchester City
Luis Suárez has insisted he wants to stay at Liverpool for many years amid interest from Premier League champions Manchester City.
The 25-year-old was named as the Reds’ Player of the Month after scoring in a 2-2 draw with Everton in October’s Merseyside derby, plus a strike against Udinese in the Europa League.
The Uruguay international has continued his superb form this month, netting in successive games against Newcastle United and Chelsea, and Suárez has no plans to leave the 18-time English champions.
“I have a very long contract here and it’s a dream come true to be playing at a club like Liverpool because, as I’ve said, as a boy I dreamt of playing for a team like this,” he told Liverpool’s website.
“Now I’m here, it’s all about enjoying myself and trying to be here for as many years as I can, because I’m at a club where I’m very happy, my family is happy, I’ve got fantastic team-mates and a manager from whom I’m learning so much.”
Suárez was pleased with the point at Chelsea last weekend but the striker described their upcoming clash against Wigan Athletic at Anfield as “must-win”, with Liverpool in a disappointing 13th place.
“Chelsea was a result that was neither good nor bad,” he added.
“I guess we really need to be picking up as many points as we can, given that we haven’t got as many points on the board that a club like Liverpool would expect to have at this stage.
“Wigan is an absolute must-win fixture. It’s a very important game for us to gain in confidence for the matches ahead and to get stronger here at Anfield, which is where we need to make the difference.”
