Villa suffered a 3-2 defeat by Manchester United last weekend despite leading the Red Devils 2-0, to leave the Birmingham outfit in 17th place in the table, having secured just two wins so far this term.

But the 21-year-old forward is confident Villa can spring a surprise when they take on Roberto Mancini’s side on Saturday.

“We don’t have fear and we shouldn’t have. The last few weeks, we’ve got confidence because we’ve won a couple of games,” said Wiemann.

“You’ve seen the way we played against Manchester United. At the moment we think we can take on anyone and at Manchester City we’ll be the same.”

Meanwhile, Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan believes Lambert’s side are on the verge of creating “something special” under their new manager.

“I thought the performance against Manchester United was a good indicator of where we’re heading. I think it’s a sign of good things to come,” Guzan told Villa’s website.

“We want to create something special and the manager wants to do that too.

“I feel the pieces of his jigsaw are starting to be put in place. It will take time but we’re on the right road definitely.

“That’s starting to show. Everyone watching could see what we’re all about – desire, determination and a real attacking philosophy.”
