QPR transfers: Jermain Defoe will not be swapping White Hart Lane for Loftus Road in January, insists Andre Villas-Boas
Andre Villas-Boas insists it is “not possible” that Jermain Defoe could leave Tottenham to be reunited with former manager Harry Redknapp at Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window.
The 30-year-old striker has been touted as a possible target for Redknapp after the new Hoops boss this week revealed he would look to bolster his attacking options at Loftus Road.
Defoe has netted 10 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this season and Villas-Boas insists he will not be leaving White Hart Lane.
“That’s not possible,” Villas-Boas said when asked if Defoe could leave in January. “It’s absolutely impossible. We have the belief in him.”
Villas-Boas has been thrilled with Defoe’s start to the season and claims the forward, who penned a new three-year deal with Spurs in the summer, is one of the best around.
“He is one of the best strikers I have worked with. I certainly put him alongside [Atletico Madrid striker] Falcao.
“His hunger for goal is extreme. That makes things easier for you to work with because you don’t have to teach a lot.
“I don’t have a lot of experience. The experience I have is with a couple of strikers, but I put him up there with the best.
“He smells every cross and when the opportunity is there to tap it in.
“Plus he has the ability to turn on the defenders and he still has the pace in him to cause chaos.”
