Rafael Benítez: Chelsea fans must realise I’m doing my best for them
Rafael Benítez has asked Chelsea fans to get behind him as he bids to secure his first victory as Blues boss at West Ham
Rafael Benítez is hopeful he will be able to win the support of Chelsea fans as he bids to secure his first win as Blues boss this weekend.
The Spaniard’s appointment as Roberto Di Matteo’s successor was met with widespread anger from Chelsea supporters, with fans voicing their discontent during the west Londoners’ successive goalless draws against Manchester City and Fulham at Stamford Bridge.
Benítez’s side travel across London to West Ham United on Saturday and the interim manager says it will be easier to achieve success if the fans are behind him.
“My idea with the fans will be the same: I will try to do my best,” said Benítez. “I’m working hard and trying to improve things. They have to realise that I will do my best for them and for the club. We have to win together.
“The other day was a bit better in terms of they were more with the team and that is the way.
“If you support the manager it will be easier to achieve what we want to achieve.
“It’s always a question of winning and to try to play in the way that they want to see the team play.
“Chelsea is a top side and we have to show the other teams that we are a top side on the pitch. I think the fans will realise that we are trying to do this and hopefully they will be happy.”
