Steven Gerrard is a role model for everyone at Liverpool, says Suso
Liverpool youngster Suso says Reds skipper Steven Gerrard is a role model for everyone at the Merseyside outfit
Suso has hailed Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as a role model for everyone at the Anfield outfit, including the Spanish youngster.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers handed Suso is debut in a 5-3 victory over Young Boys before the 18-year-old played 45 minutes in the 2-1 loss to Manchester United.
Suso has made a further eight first-team appearances this season, and the former Cadiz man is drawing inspiration from his skipper.
“I would say Gerrard. I think he is one of the best players in the world,” Suso told Liverpool’s website.
“He has been playing in the Liverpool first team since he was as young as 18 years old and he is still playing.
“I see him every morning in training and he always wants to improve, even though he is the best player already and he has won so much at this club.
“So I think this is why he is one of the best examples for young players.”
Suso’s compatriot Dani Pacheco has found it more difficult to make an impression under Rodgers, but the 21-year-old admitted Gerrard’s attitude reminds everyone of the high standards needed to play for Liverpool.
“I can’t say any different [to Suso] – at this club, Stevie is the model for everyone,” he added.
“He has come through the Academy and has achieved plenty. But he is trying to achieve even more. And that is amazing.
“When you see a player at that level, who still wants to improve more and more, you think to yourself, ‘I have to fight everyday to get near to that level’ and I know I have to fight to play for this club.”
