Szczesny: Derby victory shows gulf in class between Arsenal and Spurs
Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny believes the derby victory shows a gulf in class between the Gunners and Tottenham
Wojciech Szczesny believes Arsenal’s 5-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur shows a “gulf in class” between the north London rivals.
The Gunners recovered from Emmanuel Adebayor’s early goal, albeit aided by the striker’s first-half sending off, to secure a big three points which pushes Arsene Wenger’s side up to sixth place.
Szczesny, who has been missing through injury since a 6-1 victory over Southampton, was impressed by Arsenal’s performance and felt the home side deserved their win.
“First of all I’m delighted to be back in the team and I thought we were brilliant from start to finish,” Szczesny told Arsenal’s website.
“Over the 90 minutes we controlled the game very well. I thought we showed everyone there’s definitely a difference in class between the two teams.
“This win [over Spurs] can do exactly what it did for us last year. We pushed on then and although it’s come earlier in the season, hopefully we can kick on again this time.”
The Poland international also believes the derby victory will provide Arsenal with a timely boost ahead of a crucial Champions League clash with Montpellier on Wednesday.
“We couldn’t get a better time to play that game,” he added. “We are buzzing today, we can’t wait for the next game. We’re confident.
“We’ve had a couple of poor results recently, but we’re back on track and we’re confident that we can get the three points and qualify for the knockout stages, which is the least you can ask from us.
“We want to make sure we do the job properly and qualify.”
