Zlatan Ibrahimović: Steven Gerrard should leave Liverpool for a big club
Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimović urges England captain Steven Gerrard to leave Liverpool for one of Europe's biggest clubs
Zlatan Ibrahimović has urged England captain Steven Gerrard to leave Liverpool and prove himself at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward has faced Gerrard at successive World Cup in 2002 and 2006, as well as in their recent 3-2 defeat by England at the European championship.
Ibrahimović also suffered aggregate losses in the Champions League at the hands of Gerrard’s Liverpool during spells at Juventus and Internazionale.
“Every time we play against Steven, the coach always says to be careful because he is the player that makes the difference,” said Ibrahimović.
“But I would like to see Steven in – of course, Liverpool is a big club – but in a big international club.
“I would like to see it also for England, because it is very exciting when someone goes abroad and shows who he is in another competition.”
The 31-year-old, who will captain Sweden against England in Stockholm on Wednesday, believes Gerrard would walk into any side across Europe if the midfielder decided to leave Liverpool.
“For me, a fantastic player can make a difference in every country wherever he plays,” Ibrahimović added.
“I’m pretty sure that Steven would do that. He is playing in one of the best leagues in the world. He’s a fantastic player.”
