Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski vows to prove his worth to the Gunners
Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski insists he can "come out on top" in the Premier League despite a mixed start to the season
Lukas Podolski has insisted he can “come out on top” at Arsenal after a mixed start to life in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old has scored five goals in 16 Premier League appearances for Arsenal after moving from Cologne to The Emirates in a reported £11m deal in the summer.
“I am in a new country, I am learning a new mentality. I am with a top club and pleased with how professional this club is run. Everything has changed for the better,” Podolski told Kicker magazine.
“I have only been here for half a year, so it might be too early to take stock. I did understand people questioning that I never made it at Bayern and got relegated with Cologne. But I proved my qualities before the transfer. I was, and I am, convinced I will come out on top here.”
Arsenal were pitted against Podolski’s former club Bayern Munich for a place in the Champions League last eight, and the striker is looking forward to coming up against some familiar faces.
“That’s a dream draw,” he added. “You have to take on every opponent if you want to lift the trophy. Of course, it is a disadvantage we are at home first.
“I am looking forward to seeing Uli Hoeness, Jupp Heynckes, Franck Ribery, the colleagues from the national team and the many others who have been there during my time at Bayern.”
