Arsenal transfers: Wenger ‘frustrated’ by Walcott contract saga
Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger admits his frustration at the ongoing saga surrounding Theo Walcott's future at the Gunners
Arsene Wenger has admitted his frustration at the ongoing saga surrounding Theo Walcott’s Arsenal future.
The 23-year-old forward is yet to sign a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, with his current contract set to expire next summer.
Walcott had previously stated his desire to remain in north London but negotiations appear to have stalled, much to the frustration of the Gunners boss.
“We have not made any progress but I am honestly frustrated about it,” said Wenger. “It is clear with the player and he knows what I want. He has to make up his mind.
“We have been in negotiations for a long time and we have not been late in our re-negotiations with him and we always try to extend contracts very early.”
Walcott, who has scored five goals and made four assists so far this season, is thought to be holding out for wages of £100,000-a-week.
Wenger also commented on defender Bacary Sagna’s future, who has a year-and-a-half left to run on his current deal, following speculation linking him with an Emirates exit.
“I don’t understand the speculation,” added the Arsenal boss, whose side host West Bromwich on Saturday. “He has one-and-a-half years of his contract to go.
“We are in negotiations with him to extend the contract so I am quite amazed by these statements because it is completely the opposite of the feeling we have with the player personally and in the negotiations.”
