Arsenal transfers: Wenger only looking for ‘exceptional’ players
Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger says he will only look to strengthen his Gunners squad with the addition of top talent
Arsene Wenger has hinted that he will only look to strengthen his Arsenal side in January if an “exceptional” player becomes available.
Wenger, whose side are fourth in the Premier League table, is understood to have been handed a significant budget for next month’s transfer window.
The north Londoners have been linked with a host of big names in recent weeks, including the likes of Newcastle striker Demba Ba and Barcelona forward David Villa.
And although the Frenchman says the Gunners will be “in the market” for new players, the Arsenal boss insists he will only splash the cash on top talent.
“We are in the market, but only if we find players who will really strengthen us because we have a good squad,” said Wenger. “But if we find an exceptional player then we will take him.
“We lacked fluidity in our attacks [in Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Wigan] and continuity in our attacking play, but we won because of our will to win, and with the way things are now I won’t turn my nose up at that.”
