Arsenal transfers: Wilshere urges Walcott to commit to Gunners
Arsenal transfers: Jack Wilshere reveals that he has been pestering Theo Walcott to sign a new contract with the Gunners
Jack Wilshere has once again urged Theo Walcott to end the speculation over his future by signing a new deal with Arsenal.
Walcott’s Arsenal future has been cast into doubt in recent months, with the England international yet to agree a new deal with the Gunners and his current contract set to expire next summer.
And Wilshere, who himself penned a new five-year contract to keep him at Emirates Stadium until 2018 last week, has been pestering the 23-year-old Walcott to follow his lead and sign a new deal with the north Londoners.
Wilshere said: “Everybody at the club wants Theo to re-sign. I’m always winding him up, saying “C’mon Theo, sign”.
“But that is something he has got to sort out. It is up to him and the club to reach an agreement and I hope they do.
“Theo’s been great for us and he knows what he means to us and the fans. Five of us British boys have just signed so hopefully he can be the sixth and cap it off.”
He added: ‘We’re all great friends, the British boys. We all go out together, have meals together and we all sit together when we’re on the road.”
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger recently insisted that he is “convinced” Walcott will sign a new deal with the Gunners.
“My gut feeling is that he belongs to this club and that I hope he will do it and sign for us,” Wenger told a news conference last week. “I always am convinced that he will stay.”
