Demba Ba has admitted Arsenal are a team which “makes you dream” with the Newcastle United striker yet to pen a new deal at St James’ Park.

The Senegal international’s future at the Magpies has been a source of constant speculation thanks to a £7.5m contract release clause which becomes active in January.

Ba has scored 11 goals in 16 Premier League appearances, taking his tally to 27 goals since joining on a free transfer in 2011.

The 27-year-old’s form has prompted reports of interest from struggling duo Arsenal and Liverpool – and Ba has appeared to open the door to a move to The Emirates.

“I have nothing to say about those speculations [with Arsenal]. Nothing has happened,” Ba told Canal+.

“The media know Arsenal need another striker and they know about my release clause. They need to make their own mind up about it.

“Arsenal are one of those teams who makes you dream.”

Pardew admitted that Newcastle face a difficult January transfer window earlier this month, with the Magpies boss expecting speculation to be rife about Ba’s future.

“The situation [has] never changed. I think Demba is a player who loves it here and understands it’s a football city,” Pardew said.

“We’ve tried to do a deal with him and take the clause out, and that’s probably where the speculation has come from, because we’ve not been able to do that yet.

“So the clause is always there hanging over us. It makes it difficult for me in the next window, makes it difficult for Demba and it makes it difficult for the club.

“But we accept that’s how football is.”
