Arsenal have postponed their Boxing Day fixture against West Ham at Emirates Stadium due to proposed industrial action on London Underground.

Following Monday’s ballot, tube drivers are set to stage three strikes – the first of which is planned for 26 December – because of a dispute over Bank Holiday pay.

With disruptions to services expected, Arsenal have taken the decision to call off the match, citing safety concerns as the primary reason.

A statement on Arsenal’s website read: “As a result of Monday’s strike ballot and the proposed industrial action on London Underground on Boxing Day, Arsenal’s Premier League match against West Ham United at Emirates Stadium, originally planned for Wednesday, December 26, has been postponed.

“This decision has been made now, due to the preparation period needed to safely operate Emirates Stadium by all the relevant agencies.

“The paramount concern was always the duty of care towards the Arsenal supporters, West Ham United supporters, matchday employees and workers and indeed everyone who was planning to attend the game on Boxing Day.”

The club confirmed the rearranged fixture will be played on either Wednesday 23 January or Saturday 26 January, dependent upon both clubs’ FA Cup third round results.
