Aston Villa 0 Stoke 0: Tony Pulis was satisfied with a point after his side play out stalemate at Villa Park
Tony Pulis was pleased with a point after watching his Stoke City side play out a goalless draw at Aston Villa on Saturday.
Paul Lambert’s side had dominated possession at Villa Park but failed to break down a stubborn Stoke rearguard, with Potters defender Ryan Shotton shown a second yellow card in stoppage time.
“We’re pleased with the draw,” Pulis, whose side move into ninth place in the Premier League table, told BBC Sport. “We played some good football as well, but that’s for others to judge.
“Villa have got some good young players and when their confidence is high they play with a lot of energy.
“But we restricted them and Asmir [Begovic] hardly had a save to make. We could have offered more of a threat going forward.”
Pulis felt Shotton did not deserve to be given his marching orders late on in the match.
He added: “I’m disappointed with the two bookings when you compare those with the tackle on Glenn Whelan [by Aston Villa’s Ciaran Clark].
“But you cannot come on here and criticise the referee and say they are doing something different for each side.
“I’m not going to do that because they [the FA] have took money off me before for doing that.
“But it was pretty bizarre for me and disappointing.”
The result leaves Aston Villa just two points clear of the relegation zone in 16th place in the Premier League table.
