Paul Lambert has hailed the impact of summer signing Christian Benteke ahead of Aston Villa’s clash against Chelsea on Sunday.
The Belgium international was an £8m summer singing from Genk on transfer deadline day and Lambert described the deal as an absolute steal.
After a difficult start to life in England, Benteke has been in imperious form in recent weeks, helping Villa to a six-game unbeaten run.
“I think Christian, since he came here, has been excellent,” Lambert told Sky Sports.
“He was probably unheard of and nobody really knew too much about him. Then all of a sudden he’s doing what he’s doing and then everybody takes notice.
“He’s been an absolute steal. Transfer values are ridiculous but I’m pretty sure he’s not worth seven to eight million now. I can’t speak highly enough of what he’s done.”
The 22-year-old’s performances have led to him being linked with a move away from Villa Park, but Lambert, earlier this week, ruled out selling the striker.
Benteke has scored eight goals for Villa so far this season, including a brace at Anfield last week as Villa ran out 3-1 winners.
