Avram Grant has dismissed reports Chelsea have asked him to assist Rafael Benítez at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea appointed Benítez as their interim manager after sacking Roberto Di Matteo following a string of disappointing results.

However, the Spaniard is still winless in three attempts in the Premier League following the 3-1 loss to West Ham United at Upton Park last weekend.

The Blues’ 6-1 victory over Nordsjaelland was rendered meaningless after Juventus’ win against Shaktar Donetsk eliminated Chelsea from the Champions League.

It had been reported that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wanted to hire Grant to assist Benítez, but the Israeli coach quashed the speculation.

“It’s not a secret that [owner Roman] Abramovich and I have a private relationship, but nobody from Chelsea has offered me the job,” Grant told BBC Five Live.

“The most important thing for them is that they have a manager who needs supporting.”

He added: “I don’t think it’s the right idea [for Grant to work alongside Benítez] for the moment.”

Grant, who led Chelsea to the Champions League final in 2008, also urged the club’s supporters to get behind their new manager.

“Supporters are very difficult to change unless you’re winning games, but the club need to do it on a daily basis, and I think that it is important to give him a bit of quiet,” added Grant.
