Alex Song has revealed he would like to face Arsenal in what would be a “special” Champions League last-16 tie for the Barcelona midfielder.

The Cameroon international has scored once in seven appearances for the La Liga leaders after completing a £15m move to the Camp Nou in August.

Song faced Barcelona twice as a Gunners player during a seven-year career at The Emirates, and could take on Arsene Wenger’s men in the second round this term.

With the Champions League knockout-stage draw on Thursday, the 25-year-old is hoping for an emotional reunion with his former employers.

“Of course, I would like to play against Arsenal,” Song said.

“For me to go back there, where I had seven magnificent years, would be something very special.

“If we draw Arsenal I’d be happy to see the fans again, go back to the club, even though if we go there it will be to get the best result possible.

“Arsenal’s a big club, but I think Barcelona’s a level above, because of the talent of the players there.

“That’s no disrespect to Arsenal, because they have talented players, but I think the Barcelona players are above. I saw a lot of people come and a lot of people go at Arsenal.”
