Chelsea transfers: Radamel Falcao ‘will not be sold in January’
Chelsea transfers: Atletico Madrid's general manager insists Radamel Falcao will not be sold by the Spanish club next month
Chelsea’s hopes of luring Radamel Falcao to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window have been dealt a blow after Atletico Madrid’s general manager insisted the striker will not be leaving the club next month.
The Blues have been heavily linked with a swoop for the prolific Colombian forward, who netted a memorable first-half hat-trick during Atletico’s 4-1 Uefa Super Cup victory over the west Londoners back in August.
Manchester City are also understood to be interested in signing the 26-year-old, who has already scored 20 goals in 16 appearances this term.
But Miguel Angel Gil Marin has poured cold water on speculation linking the forward with a move to the Premier League by claiming he will not be sold until the summer at the earliest.
He told talkSPORT: “He will remain with us [in January]. I would like him to remain with us until next summer and I hope he will decide to remain with me next summer but it depends on the proposal the player has.
“At the end of the season I will talk with the player and we agreed when he came to Atletico if he decided it was better for his career, for his family to go out I will try to help him.
“I’d prefer he stayed with me. I don’t need to sell the rights of Radamel, but he’s human.
“If you receive a proposal of seven times more than your salary then I’m sure you’d say you can’t forbid Falcao to increase his salary. I can’t forbid him to improve his performance and his way of life.”
