Chelsea transfers: Rafael Benítez says he will not recall Romelu Lukaku from his loan spell at West Bromwich Albion
Rafael Benítez has ruled out recalling Romelu Lukaku from West Bromwich Albion despite Chelsea striker Fernando Torres struggling to find form.
The Belgium international has scored five goals in 12 Premier League appearances after moving to the Baggies on loan in August.
Torres has only managed five goals in 15 appearances, with reports suggesting Benítez was contemplating bringing Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge in January.
But the Blues interim boss believes the 19-year-old will benefit from staying at West Brom and continuing to gain further experience this season.
“We know Romelu has been doing very well for West Brom,” the Chelsea manager told the Sun.
“But it’s maybe best for him to stay there where he is playing games for now, as it will be better for his future development.”
The former Anderlecht striker last week reiterated his desire to stay at the Baggies for the remainder of the campaign.
“I don’t think about the option. I am very happy to be here for one year,” he told the Wolverhampton Express and Star.
“Hopefully, this season will end very well and we will see what happens in the future.
“After January, I am sure I will be at West Brom. I am very happy to know that in my head.
“Hopefully, I will do well for the rest of the season.”
