Fernando Torres has rediscovered his confidence, says Rafael Benitez
Rafael Benítez believes Fernando Torres is gradually rediscovering some of the confidence that has deserted him of late
Rafael Benítez believes Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has rediscovered some of the confidence that helped him become one of Europe’s top forwards.
The Spaniard has found some form in front of goal in recent weeks, having netted five goals in December as he helps the Blues attempt to reignite their faltering Premier League title challenge.
Benitez, who coached Torres during his prolific spell at Liverpool, says that the 28-year-old still has room for improvement but has been impressed with the striker’s impact so far.
“It’s improving him every day,” said the Chelsea interim boss. “I was talking to him half an hour ago at the end of training. We can see he has this confidence.
“I think that Fernando was not doing well because lack of confidence but I think now he has confidence, the belief he can improve.
“He’s scoring goals and he can still improve the fitness. He’s playing a lot of games but still he can improve physically and that means he can be even better around the box.”
