Joe Schmidt has confirmed Brian O’Driscoll is back in training for Leinster after missing Ireland’s autumn international due to ankle surgery.
There was further good news for the Heineken Cup champions and Ireland after the Leinster head coach confirmed Luke Fitzgerald is nearing match fitness while Rob Kearney is close to a return to training.
“Brian is out there for his first onfield session and Rob Kearney is due out on the pitch next week,” Schmidt told the Irish Independent.
“Luke is back on the pitch a while and we’re looking at either the home game against Connacht at the RDS on 29 December or for the Edinburgh match away at Murrayfield the following week.”
However, Leinster and Ireland star Richardt Strauss won’t be available for another four to six weeks after suffering medial ligament damage.
The South African born hooker sustained the injury in Leinster’s 28-21 loss to Clermont in the Heineken Cup pool phase on Saturday.
