Liverpool transfers: Rodgers hopes to bolster strike force ASAP
Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers says he wants to conclude deals as early as possible during winter window
Brendan Rodgers has revealed he hopes to bring in striking reinforcements at Liverpool early on in the January transfer window.
The Reds boss has made clear his desire to bolster his attacking options at Anfield after the Merseysiders failed to bring in a replacement for Andy Carroll back in August as the striker departed on a season-long loan to West Ham.
Liverpool have been linked with out-of-favour Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge and Lyon forward Bafetimbi Gomis in recent weeks.
And Rodgers has signalled his intent to conclude any transfer business as soon as possible when the window opens next month.
“I think we will hopefully be able to do business at the beginning,” said Rodgers.
“That was our strategy coming out of August – that we could get that support at the beginning of the month. That’s the idea and if we could do that it would be a big boost for us.
“I have always thought that if you have three-and-a-half goalscorers in your team, you have got a chance.
“We have got Luis Suárez, and Steven Gerrard will get goals. If we can add a couple more who instinctively get into the box and get goals, with the domination that we are having in games, then we have got a chance in the second half of the season.”
