Liverpool transfers: Benítez tight-lipped on Sturridge’s Chelsea future
Liverpool transfers: Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benítez is tight-lipped on Daniel Sturridge's future at Stamford Bridge
Rafael Benítez has remained tight-lipped on Daniel Sturridge’s future at Chelsea despite speculation linking the striker with a switch to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the Blues following his return from a season-long loan at Bolton Wanders in 2011.
Sturridge has scored once in seven Premier League appearances this term, while he also netted in Chelsea’s Capital One Cup victory over Manchester United.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a £12m deal for the England international as Brendan Rodgers looks to add more firepower to his squad in the January transfer window.
Sturridge has been sidelined with an injury in recent weeks, and Benítez failed to clarify the striker’s future at Stamford Bridge ahead of the club’s cup clash against Leeds United.
“He was training with us, he is fine,” Benítez said. “It is just a question of the club and some conversations with different options.
“But at the moment for me, as a coach, he is training and doing well. I can’t say too much as I don’t have much information.”
