Rafael Benítez refused to be drawn on speculation linking Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge with a move to Liverpool in January.

The Reds are reported to be preparing a £12m offer for the England international as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his attacking options during the winter window.

But the Blues interim boss gave nothing away on the situation ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Aston Villa on Sunday.

“I am sure that you have more information because you read the newspapers more than me,” Benítez told a news conference on Friday.

“The situation with Sturridge is the same, he is training well and available. For me, I just have to decide if he will be in the squad or not.

“I can read the press, that’s it. My priority is to keep the players working hard. He was training really well today.”
