Alan Pardew has confirmed that he is hoping to strengthen his Newcastle United squad in the January transfer window.

The Magpies lost 2-0 to Bordeaux in France on Thursday night as they were forced to settle for second spot in their Europa League group.

Pardew admits he is keen to send some of the players who featured on Thursday out on loan to make way for potential new arrivals at St James’ Park.

“I am just hoping that, fingers crossed, when we come out of the other side of the window, we have got a stronger squad,” said Pardew, whose side travel to Fulham on Monday.

“I will probably look at loaning a few of those who played tonight, hopefully after January when I have got a stronger position in the squad.”

Newcastle have been linked with the likes of Nancy full-back Massadio Haïdara and West Ham midfielder Momo Diame in recent weeks.
