Yaya Touré scored his third goal at St James’ Park in 2012 as Manchester City were 3-1 winners against Newcastle United on Saturday.

However, Roberto Mancini’s men failed to gain any ground on Manchester United, who eased to a 3-1 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford, while Queens Park Rangers finally picked up three points this season.

Here is the best of the reaction from the professionals on Twitter.

City striker Sergio Aguero ‏(@aguerosergiokun) was pleased with the 3-1 win: “Important victory of @MCFC – with excellent displays of football. The goal? Dedicated to @DaiDelCas. Happy birthday, sister!”

Newcastle star Demba Ba (‏@dembabafoot) states his gratitude to the Magpies fans: “I want to thank the fans really. I was looking at the stand and thinking….. what an atmosphere!”

Reading striker Noel Hunt ‏(@boyhunt) hails Touré for a match-winning display: “Yaya Touré is unstoppable when he plays like that!!!”

United centre-half Rio Ferdinand ‏(@rioferdy5) felt the Red Devils could have played better: “Good result today versus Sunderland! Could have been more but we’ll take the three points. Oooooh yeah *Macho Man Randy Savage* voice!”

Potters goalkeeper Asmir Begovic (‏@asmir1) agrees: “Another great effort by the lads today, definitely worth the point maybe more. Great goal by @KJ9nes. #PotterNation”

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann ‏(@DietmarHamann) jokingly asks whether Marouane Fellaini has been chatting to Joey Barton: “Fellaini could get nine games here …headbutt, elbow and a punch …would have made @joeybarton7 proud!”

The Marseille midfielder (‏@Joey7Barton) responds: “Felliani’s lost his mind. two head-butts, an elbow and a punch in the face. Wonder if he’ll get 12 off the suits?”

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique (‏@jose3enrique3) is upset at a 3-1 loss: “Disappointing result today. Try to think about next game and try to get three.”

Ex-Reds captain Phil Thompson ‏(@Phil_Thompson4) is concerned: “Such a disappointing result at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers needs to pick the boys up for next week, another vital game!”

Former Ipswich man Matt Holland ‏(@mattholland8) is impressed by Villa’s second at Anfield: “Brilliant team goal from Villa. What a back heel from Benteke!”

Former Villa man Ian Taylor (‏@IanTaylor7) agrees: “Just seen the second goal v #LFC again on Game of the Day on Sky Sports 2 from @andiweimann Fantastic goal!!! … By the way, MASSIVE thank you to #LFC with the whole of Anfield applauding #stylian in 19th minute.
