Martin O’Neill believes the Sunderland supporters would like to see Danny Rose sign a permanent deal with the Black Cats.

The England Under-21 international moved to the Stadium of Light on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur and has made 13 appearances for Sunderland this term, becoming a key member of O’Neill’s first-team.

The Black Cats boss has been pleased with Rose’s impact, but believes it is too early to talk of signing the left-back.

“It’s very premature to talk about a permanent move because we haven’t discussed it with Tottenham.

“The reaction of our crowd suggests they’d like to have him permanently but there’s a way to go before that happens.

“He knows there are areas where he can improve, but he’s pleased with his performances and is enjoying it here immensely.”
