Tottenham 0 Stoke 0: Andre Villas-Boas admits Spurs struggled to break down the Potters at White Hart Lane
Andre Villas-Boas admitted Tottenham Hotspur struggled to break down Stoke City after the Spurs were forced to settle for a point at White Hart Lane.
Spurs welcomed back Gareth Bale from injury but the Wales international was unable to produce a winner despite coming close with a second-half header.
Gylfi Sigurdsson also had an opportunity deep into injury time but the Potters held on to secure their ninth clean sheet of the season and extend their unbeaten run to eight games.
“It is difficult to break them down,” Villas-Boas told BBC Sport.
“We tried everything from the first minute but Stoke proved why they are on a magnificent unbeaten run. It’s difficult to create chances against them.
“We had lots of possession and lots of shots from outside the box, but we can’t be negative because we gave it a go. We tried to get the three points but we couldn’t do it today.”
Meanwhile, Stoke manager Tony Pulis heaped praise on his side for managing to prevent fifth-place Tottenham from netting at White Hart Lane.
“Tottenham are a very good side with outstanding individuals who can win a game in a second,” said Pulis.
“I thought we played really well in the first half and we had our chances. We’re pleased that we limited them, with most of their chances coming from outside the box.
“Tottenham are on a different level to us really when you look at what they’ve got, but if you work hard you’ve always got a chance.”
