West Ham transfers: ‘We’re looking for good players like Nicolas Anelka’
West Ham transfers: Sam Allardyce's assistant Neil McDonald admits the Hammers are interested in Nicolas Anelka
West Ham United are interested in signing former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka, according to assistant manager Neil McDonald.
Sam Allardyce has been forced to make full use of his 25-man squad after the Hammers were hit with an injury crisis in December.
The West Ham manager is currently without seven first-team players, including striker Andy Carroll and Ricardo Vaz Te.
The France striker is currently locked in a dispute with current employers Shanghai Shenhua, with the former Blues man is hoping to get his contract terminated.
Allardyce worked with Anelka at Bolton Wanderers, and McDonald has hinted at a possible move for the 31-year-old, who is also a target for Queens Park Rangers.
“We are looking for good players and Anelka is a good player,” said McDonald. “He had a fantastic relationship with Sam.”
In November, Allardyce had revealed his interest in working with the former Arsenal forward again.
“It could interest me, of course it could,” he said. “It would be of interest if that is a possibility financially and he wanted to come.
“I have had no conversations with Nicolas’s agent at this time.”
