Wigan transfers: Martínez wants to help Man United’s Henríquez
Wigan transfers: Roberto Martínez says Manchester United's Ángelo Henríquez could benefit from a loan switch to the Latics
Roberto Martínez believes Manchester United striker Ángelo Henríquez could kick-start his Premier League career with a loan move to Wigan Athletic.
The 18-year-old is on the verge of joining the Latics in a bid to get more playing time and become accustomed to the rigours of the English top flight.
Henríquez is yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils after completing a move to Old Trafford from Universidad de Chile this summer.
Tom Cleverley spent a season at the DW Stadium in 2010/11 before returning from a loan deal and becoming a first-team regular for Sir Alex Ferguson.
And Martínez is confident Henríquez could benefit, like Cleverley, from a temporary move to Wigan.
“Angelo is as good a goalscorer as you will find,” Martinez told the Daily Mirror.
“He scored goals at Universidad de Chile and he is going to score goals here.
“I am sure he will be an important player for United.
“We are glad we can work with him and he can use Wigan as Tom Cleverley did and adapt to what is needed in this league.”
