Thomas Vermaelen has heaped praise on Jack Wilshere following the Arsenal midfielder’s successful return from his lengthy injury lay-off.

The 20-year-old England international was out of action for 14 months with knee and ankle problems and was forced to watch the whole of last season from the sidelines.

But Wilshere has eased his way back into Arsène Wenger’s first-team this season and has been one of the Gunners’ standout performers.

And the Arsenal skipper was gushing with praise for Wilshere, who recently signed a new five-year deal at Emirates Stadium.

“You can see that since he came back he is growing and growing,” Vermaelen told Arsenal’s website. “And I think at the moment he is at a good level.

“He is a world-class midfielder and he can only get better because he is young, coming back from more than a year out with injury. So I am very confident he will come back really strong.”
