Arsenal transfers: Wenger keen to sign striker before Thursday
Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger admits he would like to sign a striker before the January window closes next week
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that he wants to bring in a new striker before the close of the January transfer window next week.
The Gunners have not brought in any new players this month despite being linked with a number of names, including Barcelona forward David Villa.
Wenger, who watched his side beat Brighton and Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, does not feel that the Gunners are lacking quality but admits they could do with more options up front.
Asked if he is looking to sign a striker next week, Wenger replied: “Quality-wise no, number-wise, we could be a bit short maybe. Gervinho is not here at the moment. We have Walcott, who can play through the middle and then of course [Olivier] Giroud.
“You do not find them in the street, the strikers that can play for us and strengthen our team. It’s difficult in January.”
