Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger admits he could strengthen his side "everywhere" but will not spend just for the sake of it

Arsene Wenger insists that he has money to spend in the January transfer window and admits he could strengthen every part of his Arsenal side.

The Gunners are yet to bring in any new faces this month despite being linked with a host of players, including the likes of Napoli’s Edinson Cavani and Crystal Palace youngster Wilfried Zaha.

But Wenger reassured fans that he has funds at his disposal should he opt to dip into the transfer market before 31 January.

“We can spend money if it is for a player we think gives us a plus,” said the Arsenal boss, whose side travel to Chelsea on Sunday.

“We can strengthen everywhere. You can come out of any game and think, ‘We gave some cheap goals away against Manchester City’.

“At the moment it is more important that the team remains focused. If we find something, we will do it.”

Cavani is the latest big-name player to be linked with a move to north London, but Wenger was quick to pour cold water on that rumour.

“Listen, [with regards to] Cavani; Napoli are playing for the title and the Champions League in Italy. What is Napoli’s interest in selling Cavani? None, unless you say, ‘OK, we will pay twice the price of what the player is worth’.

“On top of that, all the players who can strengthen us are cup-tied in the Champions League.”
