Arsene Wenger has revealed that his Arsenal players were “very down” following their 2-1 loss at Chelsea on Sunday – but the Gunners boss is convinced his side will bounce back.
Sunday’s defeat at Stamford Bridge was the Gunners’ second straight Premier League disappointment following the 2-0 loss to Manchester City at Emirates Stadium the week before.
Wenger, whose side host West Ham on Wednesday, feels that the north Londoners were made to pay for slow starts to both games.
“We are very disappointed because we put a lot of effort into these games but we missed the start and therefore came out with zero points,” Wenger said.
“The position we are in now is a bit backs to the wall because we have to respond. I’m confident we will, but the team was very down after the Chelsea game.”
Arsenal are currently sixth in the Premier League table, seven points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
