Aston Villa squad are all behind Paul Lambert, insists Ron Vlaar
Aston Villa centre-half Ron Vlaar insists all of the squad are behind their under-fire manager Paul Lambert

Ron Vlaar insists that the Aston Villa squad are “all behind” Paul Lambert after the Birmingham outfit crashed out of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
Villa failed to overturn a two-goal deficit against League Two’s Bradford City at Villa Park, with a 2-1 victory on the night not enought to book their place in the Wembley showpiece.
Villa are winless in six attempts in the Premier League, leaving them just a point above the relegation zone in 17th place.
Despite the club’s current predicament, Vlaar believes Lambert is still the right man to reverse Villa’s fortunes.
“The players are still all behind the manager,” said Vlaar.
“I didn’t hear the Bradford fans sing that [about being sacked]. I cannot believe that will happen. I believe he is the right man for the job.”
Vlaar was signed by Lambert in the summer, with the Dutch centre-half penning a three-year deal after leaving Feyenoord.
The Netherlands international insisted Villa will continue to fight in a bid to improve their league position, while also looking to have a run in the FA Cup.
“We have to pick ourselves up,” he added.
“We have no option. We have no choice. We are fighting really hard in the league.
“Staying up is the most important thing for us. We have to look forward, keep our head, get together. But we want to do well in the FA Cup as well if we can.”
