Andy Murray admits he has been encouraged by his form at this year’s Australian Open after he booked a semi-final showdown with Roger Federer with a straight-sets win over Jeremy Chardy.

The British No1, who has still not dropped a set at Melbourne Park, took one hour and 51 minutes to wrap up a 6-4 6-1 6-2 victory over his French opponent on the Rod Laver Arena.

“In the build-up to the tournament I played very well,” said Murray, 25, after the win. “I haven’t lost a set here yet. So maybe I’m expecting to play too well.

“But I’ve done a good job so far in this tournament. I can’t be disappointed with where my game’s at.”

Murray, who will face second seed Federer for a place in the final, added: “Today [against Chardy] was a decent test.

“I played a lot of tennis in December. I had some good matches in Brisbane.

“So I can’t be disappointed about being in the semis of a Slam without dropping a set. That would be silly.”
