League Two Bradford City completed a stunning upset by sealing an aggregate victory over Aston Villa to book their place in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley.

Taking a 3-1 first-leg lead to Villa Park, Bradford looked to be in trouble when Christian Benteke scored in the 24th minute.

But James Hanson’s header past Shay Given levelled the tie on the night, with Andreas Weimann scoring a late consolation for Villa as Bradford sealed a 4-3 aggregate win.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, both past and present, to a dramatic night of football, in chronological order.

Stoke City striker Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) reckons Bradford could do it: “Great atmosphere at Villa Park. I saw the Bradford team at St George’s Park today. They looked relaxed considering the enormity of tonight’s game.”

Ex-Celtic striker John Hartson (@JohnHartson10) agrees with Owen – about the noise at Villa Park that is: “Atmosphere looks electric at villa park tonight. That’s got to lift Villa. Big night for Gabby Agbonlahor. Got to fancy Villa to reach final.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) is also backing the Premier League side: “Pretty good start by Bradford …still fancy Villa to go through though #Wembley.”

Ex-Bradford City manager Chris Kamara (@chris_kammy) brings us some bad news for the League Two outfit: “Christian Benteke scores for Villa with an excellent finish. 1-0 25mins gone!”

Leicester City defender Sean St Ledger (@seanstledger12) doesn’t hide his allegiances: “C’mon the Villa!!!!!!!”

While 2001 League Cup winner Robbie Fowler (@Robbie9Fowler) wonders if Villa can emulate their bitter city rivals: “Can Villa do what Birmingham done the other year? Win the cup and get relegated!”

Here is Owen (@themichaelowen) lavishing praise on Villa’s goal-scorer: “I’m seriously impressed with Benteke. What a player. Michu, Robin Van Persie and Benteke are the signings of the season so far in my opinion.”

Former Norwich defender Iwan Roberts (@iwanwroberts) is left stunned as Bradford equalise: “Bloody hell!!!”

Ex-Birmingham midfielder Robbie Savage (@RobbieSavage8) wants to know if the League Two side complete a huge upset: “Can Bradford do it ??????”

And Ireland legend Kevin Kilbane (@kdkilbane77) give his opinon: “@RobbieSavage8 oh yes!!”

West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster (@BenFoster) is enjoying the cup tie – along with Villa’s other midland rivals: “If this stays like this, then i think there will be a few happy WBA fans tonight!….Ok, if this stays like this then theres gonna be a few happy WBA, BCFC and #BCAFC fans tonight!! #villa!

Reading midfielder Danny Guthrie(@dannyguthrie20) is not that surprised by the result after Bradford had already taken the scalps of Arsenal and Wigan: “This is no fluke from Bradford… Wigan, Arsenal and Villa over two legs! Magnificent.”

Villa legend Paul McGrath (@Paulmcgrath5) still loves his club after finding out the result: “Thought we were winning but sick at the moment. Still love Villa!”

Former Crystal Palace striker Mark Bright (@Mark__Bright) asks which side plays in the fourth tier: “One of these teams plays top flight football in England. #capitalonecup”

Ex-Liverpool striker Neil Mellor (@NeilMellor33) offers his congratulations: “Well done Bradford City for turning over a Premier League side over two legs to reach final. Sensational for a League Two side to make the final.”

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour (@RealRomfordPele) can’t believe the result: “Who would have thought, Bradford in the final. Well done to the Bradford lads. Brilliant performance.”
