After a goalless and uninspiring first-half, Chelsea piled on the pressure and had a goal disallowed when Frank Lampard’s effort was ruled out for offside.
But QPR snatched a surprise win when Shaun Wright-Phillips drilled home from the edge of the box after the Blues failed to properly clear a corner in the 78th minute.
“We worked hard on the training ground,” Redknapp told BBC Sport. “They worked their socks off and they got their rewards, we deserved it and it was a fantastic performance. We restricted them.
“I played Adel Taarabt up front, telling him to drop into holes and to hold the ball. We worked on it yesterday morning and I am really pleased.
“They have set the standard tonight and to get out of this mess, they have to do it every week.”
The win leaves bottom-of-the-table QPR just five points from safety, with Chelsea remaining in fourth and a point behind third-placed Tottenham.
Redknapp, whose side were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool in their last outing, added: “The defeat against Liverpool was a terrible day for us.
“Today we all knew where we were, against Liverpool, we got picked off too easily and had lads there who did not speak English. Today Shaun Derry did a terrific job for us.”
