Rafael Benítez admits that he would like to “improve” his Chelsea squad in the January transfer window.

The Blues have moved quickly in their bid to snap up Demba Ba from Newcastle, with the west Londoners set to begin talks with the striker after having a bid accepted on Wednesday.

And Benítez, whose side host Queens Park Rangers at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, says that he would like to bolster his squad to add cover during a crucial stage of the season.

“You can always improve things, especially when you have injuries, and we lose two players to the African Nations Cup,” said the Chelsea interim boss.

“Obviously we need bodies but I am really pleased with the squad, they train well, the commitment is there and they are keen to learn.

“I think we will do our job [in the window] and hopefully it will be a good job.”

Chelsea can move up to third place in the Premier League table if they avoid defeat against QPR.
