Alan Pardew insists that Demba Ba will join Chelsea with Newcastle’s “blessing”, with the striker poised to seal a £7m move to Stamford Bridge.

The Magpies confirmed on Wednesday that they had given the 27-year-old Senegal striker permission to hold talks with the Blues after the west Londoners’ bid triggered a release clause in the forward’s contract.

Pardew had made no secret of his desire to secure a quick resolution to a transfer saga that has rumbled on for months.

And the Newcastle boss said he was “pleased” that a deal now looks set to go through on just the second day of the January transfer window.

“There is no swift resolution, it’s done, he will go to Chelsea with our blessing,” Pardew told BBC Sport.

“He has done fantastically for us, it’s a big club, good luck to him.

“For us, it’s not a bad thing because of all the uncertainty of whether he was going to stay is now done.

“We can move on, we’re a massive club here. This club is bigger than any player for sure. In some respects, I’m pleased.”
