Didier Drogba has ruled out a shock return to European football, with Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan all linked with a move for the Chelsea legend.

The 34-year-old called time on his eight-year spell at the Blues in the summer, opting to join Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua after his penalty secured Chelsea’s first Champions League crown.

Drogba has already scored eight goals in 11 appearances in the Chinese Super League but the Ivory Coast international’s future in the Far East is in doubt amid reports of unpaid wages.

But the former Marseille forward has rubbished speculation surrounding his future, with Drogba insisting he is preparing to take part in the African Cup of Nations which starts on 19 January.

“People talk too much, they are all on alert regarding rumours about my future,” Drogba told Eurosport.

“In reality, no club has contacted me directly.

“I have a contract here in Shanghai and at the moment I’m enjoying my holiday before the African Cup of Nations.”
