Everton have agreed a reported £7m fee with Steve McClaren’s FC Twente for the signing of Leroy Fer.

The 23-year-old will now travel to Merseyside to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with the Toffees.

The Dutch midfielder has scored 10 goals in 29 appearances for Twente, who are second in Eredivise, after joining from Feynoord in 2011.

Fer, who is an international team-mate of current Toffees defender Johnny Heitinga, has been capped twice by the Netherlands.

An Everton statement read: “Everton has agreed a deal with FC Twente for the transfer of Dutch international Leroy Fer.

“The 23-year-old midfielder will now head to Merseyside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.”

On Sunday, David Moyes confirmed he is still hoping to sign another striker before the January transfer window closes on Thursday, with Nikica Jelavić contuining to struggle for Eveton.

“I would love to (bring another striker in) but I would be very surprised if I did,” Moyes said.
