Liverpool transfers: Inter’s Philippe Coutinho closes in on Anfield switch
Liverpool transfers: The Reds have a €13m bid for Philippe Coutinho accepted by Inter Milan, according to reports in Italy
Inter Milan have accepted an offer from Liverpool for highly-rated midfielder Philippe Coutinho, according to reports in the Italian media.
The Reds are believed to have met Inter’s asking price, rumoured to be €13m (£10.2m), and the 20-year-old is expected to fly in to Merseyside for a medical next week.
The 18-time English champions are facing competition from Premier League rivals Southampton for the playmaker’s signature but the former Vasco Da Gama star is rumoured to prefer a move to Anfield.
Coutinho has been out of favour under Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni this season and has started three Serie A games, scoring once.
On Friday, Brendan Rodgers confirmed that he wanted to make “one or two additions” before the close of the January transfer window.
“We hope to do some business between now and the end of the month. The owners have been brilliant and supporting,” said Rodgers.
“We know we still need one or two more additions. The club is doing everything it possible can to assist me in that. If we can, great. If not, we’ll have to review it again in the summer.
“We’ve got a young player who’ll go out on loan to get some experience but apart from that I don’t expect people [to go]. One or two, maybe, to come in.”
Liverpool signed Daniel Sturridge in a £12m deal from Chelsea earlier this month, with the striker scoring three goals in three appearances for the Reds.
