Liverpool transfers: Reds captain Steven Gerrard admits the club need to sign two or three more big players in January

Steven Gerrard says that Liverpool still need to sign “two or three big players” in the January transfer window after landing Daniel Sturridge earlier this month.
Liverpool’s new signing scored his third goal in three appearances as the Reds were emphatic 5-0 winners against Norwich City at Anfield on Saturday.
Brendan Rodgers has been linked with Internazionale duo Philippe Coutinho and Wesley Sneijder, and Gerrard hopes to see further arrivals to help close the gap on the club’s rivals.
“In general, I like the direction the club is going in, but the harsh reality is that we still need two or three big players who can help,” Gerrard was quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.
“We were short before the last deadline and I think we struggled to find consistency because of that. The gap between us and, say, Manchester United is now severe, but I believe that – on our day – we can beat any team in the league.
“When we don’t play well, we don’t win. We need to find a way to win games when we’re not really at our top level.”
