Liverpool transfers: Gerrard would ‘love’ the Reds to sign Sneijder
Liverpool transfers: Steven Gerrard says that he would love the Reds to sign Internazionale's Wesley Sneijder this month
Steven Gerrard says that he would “love” Liverpool to sign Internazionale midfielder Wesley Sneijder in the January transfer window.
The Netherlands international is expected to leave Inter after failing to agree a new deal with the 2010 Champions League winners, who wanted the playmaker to take a pay cut.
The former Ajax midfielder, who was a long-term target of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, has not featured for the Nerazzurri since September.
Inter have accepted Galatasaray’s £6.2m offer for the midfielder – but Sneijder is believed to be holding out for an offer from the Premier League, with Liverpool reportedly interested.
And the Reds skipper believes the Dutch star would be a great addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad, if the Reds can match his wage demands.
“He’ll do,” Gerrard said on Sky Sports‘s ‘Goals on Sunday’, “but he plays where I play!
The 32-year-old added: “He’s a top player. I think we’ve seen at every major tournament he delivers. He’s done it in the Champions League for years, but we’ll have to see on his wage demands.
“I think he gets paid very well and he’ll have all kinds of options I’m sure, but I’d love nothing better than to see him in a red shirt.”
