Liverpool’s youngsters ‘fundamental’ to success, says Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes Reds fans should be "excited" by the young talent currently impressing at Anfield
Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool’s commitment to bringing through young talent is “fundamental” to the club’s future success.
Rodgers has placed his faith in a number of youngsters this term, including the likes of Raheem Sterling, 18, and Jonjo Shelvey, 20, as he bids to hoist the Merseysiders back up to the top of English football.
Andre Wisdom, 19, on Wednesday signed a new long-term deal with the Reds, and Rodgers says Liverpool fans should be “excited” by the club’s prospects for the future.
“I think every club is the same, they like to see their own come through – players that committed to the club when they were youngsters,” said Rodgers.
“That’s something that’s exciting for supporters to see. They see young boys come in and develop and then grow into hopefully icons for the club that produced them.
“The exciting thing going forward for our club is that I’ve come in here with a specific vision to an order of how to work, but also part of that is for young players and they will be fundamental.”
