Robin van Persie believes the injury problems that hampered much of his Arsenal career were purely down to bad luck.

The early years of the Netherlands striker’s Gunners career was restricted by a succession of long-term problems that kept him out of action for prolonged spells.

The ex-Arsenal captain managed to stay out of the wars last season as he notched up 48 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners and enjoyed his most prolific run in front of goal, netting 37 times.

And Van Persie, who joined Manchester United for £24m in the summer, believes he was simply the victim of bad luck during his early years in north London.

“If you go back to my injuries, people just look at the stats and for a couple of years those stats weren’t great,” Van Persie, 29, told Sky Sports.

“But most of those injuries were impact injuries, they can happen. I was mostly unlucky.

“I don’t think it was me to blame, or the club medical staff to blame. I was just unlucky.”

Van Persie has already scored 22 goals in 28 games for Manchester United this season.
